Maverick
Maverick (see also http://www.codesector.com/maverick.php) is a software for Android which, similar to TrekBuddy, shows the current position on a map and which can be used to navigate along way points. It also provides the possibility to record of tracks.
Currently (as of November 2011) there is a free and a paid version available, which mostly differs by the number of supported way points and tracks.
In a way Maverick is a mixture of Google Maps Mobile and Trekbuddy – compared to TrekBuddy Maverick has the advantage that map data can also be downloaded online from different sources. Although all map data will also be stored locally for later use (except Google Maps, as Google did forbid this), so you don't need an online connection next time.
It is also possible to prepare the maps for offline use using software as “Mobile Atlas Creator” (MOBAC), the successor of “TrekBuddy Atlas Creator”. MOBAC also allows to visualize and edit tracks in GPX format.
Especially on Android devices the handling of Maverick is more felicitous compared to TrekBuddy. Although there is no freely customizable “Computer Mode Screen”, Maverick provides a number of additional customizable displays itself.
The “Trip Computer” allows flexible customization – you can choose between a large speedometer and detail display on each half of the screen and you can also select which values should be shown on each of the four detail displays, where you can select from a large number of options like latitude, longitude, altitude, time of last GPS fix, number of satellites, accuracy, speed and many more.
