Google Maps Mobile
Google Maps Mobile is offered as an application for several platforms, like J2ME or Android and it is pre-installed on many newer mobiles with an integrated GPS receiver. Also see http://www.google.com/mobile/maps/.
The software does not use stored map data but the online service by Google. A major advantage is the possibility to search for addresses or to calculate routes for navigation. Depending on the platform you also get a turn-by-turn-navigation with spoken direction instructions. A coarse positioning based on the location of the connected base stations or WLAN hotspots is also possible in case there is no GPS reception.
Additionally Google Maps Mobile provides different views, as a 3D view with buildings in selected cities for an easier orientation or aerial views.
A disadvantage is, that an online connection is mandatory. Therefore an appropriate data contract is needed and it may take a while to load the map view in areas with bad network coverage.
