Internet connection with GPRS and PalmOS

If you are using a PalmOS based PDA, you can also use GPRS for an internet connection, when there is an appropriate mobile phone. I've tested this successfully with Snapper Mail on a Sony Clié N770C, a Siemens ME75 over a IrDA connection and T-Mobile. All settings are based on the english version of PalmOS 4.1 on the Clié. Generally it is portable to other combinations. It's crucial to use the number *99***1# and to set the mobile phone to GPRS mode with the appropriate init-string.

Instead of “internet.t-mobile.de” (that's the name of the APN) and the given IP-address for the DNS, specific settings are neccessary for other providers. If neccessary, ask the provider.

1. Create a new connection “GPRS” with Preferences > Connection and enter the following settings:

Connect to Modem
Via Infrared
Dialing TouchTone
Volume Low

At “Details”:

Speed 115.200 bps
Flow Ctrl automatisch
Init String at&f+CGQREG=1,3,4,3,7,1;+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”internet.t-mobile.de”;

2. Create a new service “GPRS” with Preferences > Network and enter the following settings:

Connection GPRS

Query DNS off
